Shahrukh Khan apologizes to Aishwarya Rai

Posted by Mohan Desai On 11:50 AM 0 comments

Karan Johar's birthday party on Monday night was a night of patch-ups. Especially for the Bachchan boy. Vivek Oberoi and he hugged each other, he exchanged hellos with Karisma Kapoor and chatted at length with SRK.But the surprise patch-up of the evening was between Shah Rukh Khan and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. How things went bad Says a source present at the party, "After Shah Rukh dropped Aishwarya unceremoniously from his home production Chalte Chalte, she never forgave or forgot that. Things between them got worse when SRK and Gauri were not invited to the AbhiAsh wedding. But the final straw was reports of Shah Rukh having said unflattering things about Ash during a verbal war with Salman, last year. While Salman maintained that SRK had made debasing comments about Ash, SRK swore that he had too much respect for women to demean them. At the time, Shah Rukh had called the Bachchans' family friend Amar Singh and had explained to him that he hadn't said anything demeaning about the Bachchan bahu, but the damage was done. Battle lines were drawn. Apology accepted But on Monday night, when Karan brought them together, both sides decided to put aside their differences and make a fresh start. Says a source, "A few minutes into the conversation with Ash, SRK apologised to her." He said, 'I think I owe you an apology because in some way I have wronged you."Ash gracefully accepted the olive branch offered. After that, Abhishek, Ash, Shah Rukh and Gauri stuck together — dancing, chatting and laughing. As the party wound up, Gauri asked her usual group of friends back home to continue the party there. She also invited Ash and Abhishek to come along, and they all piled into one car and headed for Mannat. Other couples like Hrithik and Sussanne Roshan, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, Kajaal Anand and Arjun Rampal and Mehr Jesia joined them later. The group partied at SRK's home till 6 am and left after having breakfast." Happy endings are so much fun.

SRK won't shake a leg at IPL 2 finale

While Shah Rukh Khan insists it's because of his shoulder injury, the pathetic performance of the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is possibly the main reasonThere's bad news for Shah Rukh Khan fans across the globe. They'll miss King Khan in action, as he won't be performing at the grand finale of the IPL season 2, which will be held at the Wanderers Stadium in Johannesburg tomorrow. The finale will have a grand show put up by Cineyug's Morani Brothers and Development Network Africa.Says a source from South Africa, "The Morani Brothers are very close to Shah Rukh and are scripting and directing the event. It's strange that Shah Rukh, who performs in almost every show of the Morani's, won't be performing this time. In fact he's not even going t o south Africa for the finals."Commenting on SRK not performing at the finals, Mohammed Morani, says, "Shah Rukh has been a part of most of our shows and it's sad not to have him this time. Actually, he's busy shooting and didn't have dates for the event."Besides, a source adds that people had expected SRK to come for the IPL finals and cheer his team but apparently he's keeping a low profile, as KKR failed miserably in the tournament."Hence, Shah Rukh just wants to keep away from all the controversies and concentrate on his work," he says.Speaking to MiD DAY, Shah Rukh said, "I won't be able to perform at the IPL finals this time as my shoulder is till healing."A source close to Shah Rukh, dismissing the gossip, says, "Shah Rukh is busy completing his shooting commitments and hence, he's unable to attend the event. Also, he's not keeping a low profile – it's just that there are no parties or social events for him to attend right now."But a source from South Africa perseveres, "Shah Rukh performed at builder Kanti Govani's nephew's wedding, which was held on April 30. If he could perform then, why not now?" he questions.Apart from Katrina Kaif and Shilpa Shetty, the IPL finals won't have any big tinsel town stars performing this year. However, Morani says, "As IPL is a global event, it will witness performances by Eddy Grant, percussionist Sivamani with 100 drummers, Akon, Miss Bollywood (South Africa) and quite a few internationals acts."

Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan

Posted by Mohan Desai On 1:46 PM 0 comments

Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan always involve in exchanging bitter words. They never leave any opportunity to throw tantrums on one another. But with their new move, we can conclude that enmity between the two is gradually fading down. No the two big Khans are not coming together for any new film but they have been roped by Coca Cola to endorse their product.Pepsi had cut off ties with Shahrukh Khan, the product that he has been endorsing for years long due to his growing age. SRK had hit 40 and Pepsi found him unsuitable for their ad as their drink has a huge youth appeal.Shahrukh Khan is not a man to sit silently and accept the insult. He gave a tight slap on Pepsi by tying up with Cola. After roping in Kolkata Knight 's star Saurav Ganguly and his team to endorse Sprite which is a Coke product, he has joined hand with Aamir for another ad.The Cola has a big plan to launch their product in a big way with Shahrukh Khan and Aamir Khan

Fake IPL Player

Who is the "Fake IPL Player" afterall ?

For SRK’s Kolkata Knight Rider’s, things seem to be going from bad to worse. Since the talk began about IPL season 2, KKR was the one which was the most talked about team, partly because of SRK and hugely because of its Controversies, the multiple captaincy strategy. Finally the multiple captaincy idea was put aside making Brendon McCullum as the single captain of the team. Just when things were seemed to be settled in KKR and time has come to prove their popularity on the field, enter’s the so claimed Fake IPL Player. He claims to be from the Kolkata Knight rider’s team and makes some witty remarks on Sourav Ganguly. Writing a post on April 19 after the team meeting, he described Ganguly as ‘Lord Almighty’ and said that his [edited] experience would be used in the middle order.

He says

“Just out of the team meeting held in the Coach’s suite. Skipper did most of the talking. He is opening with the Calypso King. Lord Almighty is at No. 3. Some [edited] about using his experience to guide the middle order, similar to what the other 2 of the troika did yesterday. Lord sat there straight faced. Didn’t say much. Didn’t smile at all. I was standing at one corner straight across the Lord. And given my height and stature I can go quite unnoticed. I was observing the Lord carefully, each twitch of his eyes, every movement of his thumb, his gaze. He is very unhappy and uncomfortable. Being treated like this in front of his bachchas“.

Though the authenticity of him being a player in KKR is questionable, the facts which he posts in his blog seems to be true.People suspect that it might be Akash Chopra but in yesterdays blog post, he said that his name was not in the playing XI against Kings XI Punjab to be played on Tuesday. Is this a publicity stunt by an anonymous ambitious blogger? All in all, who is the man behind the blog remains a mystery. Probably, SRK, the DON should enter the scene now and say some dialogues

Fans miss Bollywood at IPL opening

Posted by Mohan Desai On 1:09 PM 0 comments

Where was the Bollywood entertainment or "taste of India" that the Indian Premier League had promised repeatedly in the run-up to the official opening of the tournament in Cape Town on Saturday (April 18) night? That was the question on the lips of many Bollywood fans at the colourful ceremony at a packed Sahara Newlands Stadium here, as a host of artists entertained the crowd with items as diverse as traditional drums from both countries and circus acts from Europe entertained them. But the closest sign of anything Bollywood or Indian on the field, besides the teams, was a tabla being played by a South African artist accompanying the traditional African dancers on their drums.Even the music featured in all the entertainment items did not have any Bollywood music in it.Fans did get repeated glimpses of Bollywood stars and team owners Shah Rukh Khan and Shilpa Shetty on the big screens during the two matches, including the disappointment on Shilpa's face as she watched, together with her mother and sister from the suites, how the chances of her Rajasthani Royals team defending its title slipped away from the Bangalore Royal Challengers.Shah Rukh was shown with his wife Gauri and their two children, at times Shah Rukh doting over his son as the latter made comments about the game. But that was the closest that the fans got to see of Bollywood.Off the field, there were very short interviews on television with the first two winners in the search to find the next new face of Bollywood from among South African girls. The young women, identified by the interviewer only as Raeesa and Tasneem, both from Cape Town, just gave monosyllabic answers to the questions posed by him as they admitted to being Shah Rukh Khan fans and being "nervous" or "wow" about the possibility of starring in a movie with him.A total of 50 winners will be chosen from the crowds at every one of the eight venues around the country that are to host IPL matches. One finalist from each venue will be chosen, leaving eight winners to be hosted and feted at The Wanderers in Johannesburg at the final of the IPL 2009 tournament on May 24. The ultimate winner will be announced during the final.IPL fans worldwide will also be able to cast their votes for the winner via the IPL website.

Akshay Kumar pips SRK as top taxpayer

Posted by Mohan Desai On 4:43 PM 0 comments
Not only did the top ten earners pay 17.7% more by way of taxes than in the previous year, but the industry has thrown up a new ‘Hero No 1′. Akshay Kumar, who paid a whopping Rs 31 crore to the I-T department, narrowly pipped Shah Rukh Khan (Rs 30.99 crore) to the title of Bollywood’s highest taxpayer of 2008-09. The top ten Bollywood stars together paid Rs 107 crore as taxes while the same set had paid Rs 90.90 crore in 2007-08 when the economy was booming. The other two Khans - Salman and Saif Ali - were at number three and four, having paid Rs 14 crore and Rs 8.6 crore respectively.
As far as taxes go, Bollywood’s Jodi No 1 was Saif Ali and his girlfriend Kareena Kapoor. Kareena was placed at No 7 with a deposit of Rs 3.7 crore in the tax kitty. The duo clearly beat the Bachchans - Abhishek and Aishwarya - who stood at No 8 and No 6 respectively. Surprisingly, yesteryear superstar Rajesh Khanna continues to be among Bollywood’s big tax payers, coming in at No 5 after paying Rs 6.87 crore - ahead of the Big B (Rs 1.25 crore), who slipped to the 10th rank from No 7 last year. Khanna had paid Rs 11.90 crore last year, the third highest after his son-in-law Akshay Kumar (No 2) and SRK (No 1). The details of Khanna’s business operations were not available. While SRK had paid Rs 31.50 crore, Akshay trailed behind him with a deposit of Rs 12.50 crore.
At No 9 this year is singer-actor Himesh Reshammiya, who paid taxes to the tune of Rs 3 crore. Notable among those missing from the top 10 list is Salman Khan’s current flame and industry favourite Katrina Kaif. Aishwarya Rai, on the other hand, has improved her ranking from No 9 last year to No 6. Both Kareena’s rise (No 10 last year) and Aishwarya’s have been at the cost of theBig B and son Abhishek. Last year, Abhishek was placed at No 5.

SRK says sorry to Gavaskar

Posted by Mohan Desai On 12:49 PM 0 comments

Bollywood superstar and principal owner of IPL franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Shah Rukh Khan, who had hit out at Sunil Gavaskar for the former India captain’s criticism of the multiple captains theory, has now apologised to the legendary batsman.
“I have not said anything against Gavaskar. I just wanted to have breathing space to try something new. I have sent him an apology letter because he was in America that time,” Shah Rukh said before his departure for South Africa on Monday night.
He said: “Due to the wonderful methodology that television applies, that comment was for people who don’t understand cricket and who are still telling me how to run the team.
“If Gavaskar asks me to walk on my head and run the team, I would. Anything that Gavaskar says that has to do with cricket, if he mentions, should be followed,” the actor said.
Shah Rukh said the controversy had hurt him.
“People are making comments without understanding what the concept of multiple captaincy is,” he said.
The Knight Riders team owner’s apology comes a couple of days after cricket manager John Buchanan had reacted to Gavaskar’s criticism.
Suggesting Buchanan’s multiple-skipper theory did not deserve comment, the former India captain had written in his syndicated column “…he has wangled for his Queensland pals and former teammates lucrative jobs with the franchise… The owners, poor souls, probably have little idea of how they are being milked”.
Buchanan refused to comment when the controversy broke, but changed his mind a few days later. “There were always people who were more than willing to put the knife in, and the fact that I never played Test cricket was simmering in the background of these digs, particularly by a select few,” Buchanan was quoted as saying by a South African newspaper. “I never shook the feeling that the axe was always hovering,” he added.

Bollywood star Shah Rukh Khan to cricketer Sourav Ganguly and former IPS officer Kiran Bedi - they all love their daughters and say the girl child is precious. They are urging parents not to see daughters as a bane but bring them up with care and make them independent.
“Not everybody is blessed with a daughter; only lucky people are blessed with this bundle of joy. Every daughter is a ‘laadli’ (adorable) and she is very special,” said
Shah Rukh
, who dotes on his eight-year-old daughter Suhana.
Even Sourav, the captain of
Shah Rukh
’s Indian Premier League (IPL) team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), says he shares the most beautiful moments of his life with his daughter Sana.
“Everybody questions me about my most memorable moment - is it making a century in my Test debut or winning a series in England or getting into the world cup finals? But the most memorable time is the time that I spend playing hide and seek with my seven-year-old daughter,” said Ganguly.
“Her smile is priceless - no trophy and no award come closer to matching it,” he added.
The two share their views about their daughters in a press statement released on the sidelines of Laadli Week, starting Monday.
‘Laadli Week’ - is a joint initiative by entertainment channel STAR Plus and KC Mahindra Educational Trust. Under this programme, they will educate 600 underprivileged young girls in Sawai Madhopur in Rajasthan.
These girls are a part of Project Nanhi Kali, an initiative by the KC Mahindra Educational Trust.
Starting this year, Laadli Week would be an annual affair.
“We have always stood for the empowerment of women and our women viewers have endorsed it by making it one of the leading Hindi entertainment channel in India,” said Anupam Vasudev, executive vice president, marketing, STAR Plus.
“Our show ‘Sabki Laadli Bebo’ is a tribute to the families of today who respect, adore and educate their daughters and this is now translating into the tie-up with Project Nanhi Kali to educate a larger number of girls in India and also involve and educate audiences through the medium of the ‘Laadli Week’. We will support approximately 600 Nanhi Kali’s in the first year,” he added.
The channel will raise fund for these girls through various contests on its show.
According to 17-year-old Shivshakti, the lead actress of ‘Sabki Laadli Bebo’, the effort to educate young girls is “very nice” and says she too wants to contribute to it in her own little ways.
“I think it is a very nice thought to teach so many girls. I myself like studying a lot and I feel the least education one needs to have is graduation. I will be very happy if I can teach them something and contribute some money towards their education,” Shivshakti, who recently appeared for her Class 10 board examinations, told us over phone from Mumbai.
Even India’s first woman IPS officer is for the cause and says it is the parent’s responsibility to educate their child.
“I was my parent’s ‘laadli’. It’s because of my parent’s upbringing that I am what I am today. It entirely depends upon the parents on how they bring up their girl child, educate them, make them financially self-reliant and get them the self respect they deserve.
“The number of girl children in India is decreasing. And this is not happening because of poverty, but mentality. If you think that girls are weak, it’s not their fault - its their parents’ upbringing which is weak,” she said.
In a message to parents, Bedi said: “Had my parents been weak, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Their thinking was strong and therefore I grew up to be a strong individual. You can also do the same.
“Bring up your girl child with care, make herself reliant - self reliance will come with education and self reliance is power. If you do this, your girl children will respect you more and will care for you for life. Make your faith in your girl child strong.”

SRK's Korbo, Lorbo... is passe

Posted by Mohan Desai On 12:38 PM 0 comments

Korbo, Lorbo, Jeetbo Re – these were the lyrics of the Kolkata Knight Riders anthem last year. But that was when the IPL was held in India. Now, since the tournament has shifted to South Africa, SRK’s team has also changed its anthem, so that supporters there can easily chant it when the team takes to the field. “The tournament has moved to SA. Keeping that in view, the anthem Korbo, Lorbo... has been changed. The beats are different and the lyrics too will have a more international feel to it,” said a source close to the team.Looks like Shah Rukh Khan is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring the success of his team this time round. That might be the reason why there are rumours that the video of the song will also be re-shot. “SRK has heard the song and there are talks of a new video being shot for it. But nothing is confirmed as of now,” informed the source. The original video for the song featured SRK in the team’s golden-and-black colours – wearing a dhoti in Kolkata ishtyle. Do you have a golden-black bermuda in mind now, Shah Rukh?

Every daughter is a laadli: SRK

Posted by Mohan Desai On 12:34 PM 0 comments

On the launch of the Laadli Week celebrations, Shah Rukh ‘King’ Khan said, “Not everybody is blessed with a daughter; only lucky people are blessed with this bundle of joy. Every daughter is a ‘Laadli’, she is very special. Especially for a father, she is his laadli, his life’s ultimate desire; she is his life.”Star Plus’ Laadli Week, which begins April 13, in association with the KC Mahindra Educational Trust’s Project Nanhi Kali, will see a series of fundraising and awareness creation events through promotions to educate underprivileged girl children in India. The week comprises of activities which will bring a smile on the children’s faces and give them memories to cherish for a lifetime.Taking out time from the IPL mania, Saurav Ganguly said, “Everybody questions me about my most memorable moment — making a century in my test debut, winning a series in England or getting into the world cup finals. But the most memorable time is the time that I spend playing hide and seek with my seven-year-old daughter. Her smile is priceless; no trophy and no award can come closer to matching it.”Known for her support to women’s causes in India and also an idol for many people across the country, Kiran Bedi, the host of Aap Ki Kachehri, a show that created waves on Indian television said, “I was my parent’s ‘Laadli’. It’s because of my parents’ upbringing that I am what I am today. It entirely depends upon the parents on how they bring up their girl child, educate her, make her financially self-reliant and get her the self respect she deserves. I am happy that the channel is celebrating the girl child week as ‘Laadli Week’ as the number of girl children in India is decreasing. And this is not happening because of poverty but mentality. If you think that you girls are weak, it’s not them but your upbringing which is weak.”She further added, “If my parents had the same thought process, I wouldn’t be who I am today. Their thinking was strong and therefore I grew up to be a strong individual. You can also do the same. Bring up you girl child with care, make her self reliant; self reliance will come with education and self reliance is power. If you do this, your girl children will respect you more and will care of you for life. Make your faith in your girl child strong.”That’s not all; even the telestars who are the laadlis of their parents onscreen as well as in real life are supportive of this initiative. Popular Sara Khan aka Sadhana of Sapna Babul ka–Bidaai said, “This is an excellent initiative. I think we should promote girls as people think that girls are not doing anything and therefore girls are a bane in our lives. These days, maximum high rankers in schools are girls. We have often heard in the news that girls are making new records in academics and every other field as they are very capable. This initiative, supporting the education of 600 girls every year, will make a great difference. I think this will work as an eye opener for those who are still silent when it comes to educating and helping orphan girls.”Further added Parul Chauhan, the newly wed Ragini of Sapna Babul ka - Bidaai, “Being a girl, I completely support this cause. I believe the happiness of building a new life for an orphan girl is completely out of the world. If all of us could spare a small share of our income towards the life of a girl child then we can really make a difference.”The fresh new face on television, Hina Khan, who plays Akshara in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, said, “I am very glad to be a part of this platform where one can speak up for the girl child. It is really sad that even today people do a sex determination of their unborn child and choose not to have a girl child. The strength of a woman is something that is not recognized even today. A platform has been created for people to speak up for the girl child and to come forward and help in whatever way they can... financially or just by moral support. I am proud to be a part of this and proud to be a woman.”As a part of the initiative, winners of a contest will also have the chance to have their daughter featured in the show Sabki Laadli Bebo.

Shah Rukh was never Bollywood King: Aamir Khan

Bollywood Actor Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan rift continued often making news and now Aamir Khan has said that Shah rukh Khan was never a Bollywood king. When quizzed that who could now be the Bollywood king, following most recent film Ghajini huge success, he quipped that Shah Rukh was never king Khan.“If he is asked who is the Bollywood king, then he will say that Amitabh Bachan can be called a king”. He said that in Ghajini what we set out to make we were in fact able to achieve that. “I realized that I'm making a hardcore mainstream film after really long, which is fine. I guess I'm happy to do that”, he said

Farhan Akthar has been really busy acting and facing the camera, so much so that he’s forgotten all about directing. But now Farhan Akthar has decided to get back in the director’s seat with Don 2.Farhan Akthar will cast Shahrukh Khan & Priyanka Chopra in the lead and will be produced by Excel Entertainment. But Akthar has no plans of doing it this year, he plans on directing the sequel in April 2010, so there’s still a long way to go for this film to hit the screens.
Farhan was quoted saying that he likes to direct films but only one film at a time. Like the gap between the each film is almost around 2 – 3 years and he likes it that way. Dil Chahta Hai was in 2001, his next film Lakshya was in 2004 and Don was in 2006 and now Don 2 in 2010.
Don 2 will take off from where Don ended, which was nothing like the original Don with Amitabh Bachchan. And so just like the unexpected ending in the original version you can be sure that Don 2 will blow you away.

Dish TV renews contract with Shah Rukh Khan

Posted by Mohan Desai On 12:47 PM 0 comments
Dish TV has extended its endorsement contract with Shah Rukh Khan for another 18 months. Dish TV, which leads the DTH category in the
country, had signed up with Shah Rukh Khan in '07 to endorse its service. According to Dish TV officials, the service has a base of 4.85 million subscribers. Rival Tata Sky too uses Aamir Khan
extensively in its advertising. As reported by ET last week, Shah Rukh tops the list of celebrity endorsements on TV according to a new Tam AdEx report. The economic slowdown seems to have had a positive rub-off on the DTH industry, as people have started restricting their entertainment bills and going out less. In the July-September '08 period, the DTH industry was adding six lakh subscribers per month, but the base jumped to one million in the October-December period. "The DTH sector is witnessing explosive growth and Dish TV is fully equipped with key resources to maintain its leadership position in this growth phase. We have posted robust numbers in Q3 FY09 and are set to garner 8 million subscribers in next fiscal," Dish TV COO Salil Kapoor said. Dish TV has added 7.89 lakh subscribers in the Q3 FY '09 compared to 5.29 lakh new subscribers in the previous quarter, registering an increase of 49%

What luck! Aamir & SRK in a film

Posted by Mohan Desai On 12:03 PM 0 comments

This is a coup for any director in Bollywood. shah rukh khan
and Aamir Khan in one film! Take a bow, Zoya Akhtar — you’ve managed to do that in your debut film.
The long wait for cinema audiences everywhere is now over with Zoya’s Luck By Chance (produced by Excel Entertainment and Reliance Big Pictures) hitting the screens on January 30. Interestingly, the Khans play themselves in the film, but regretfully don’t share screen space and appear at different times individually. SRK interacts with Farhan and Aamir with Konkona. Both superstars have excellent relationships with Farhan and Zoya and both wanted to support this film. Even though Aamir doesn’t do cameos, he readily agreed because he is familiar with the set-up having worked with producer Ritesh Sidhwani and director-actor Farhan in Dil Chahta Hai. Also, Aamir who works on bound scripts only, had already read Luck By Chance’s script when Zoya took it to him for feedback some years ago. So that was also okay. “Initially, we were in a fix wondering how to talk to him, knowing his stance on cameos, till dad called me up to say he had spoken to Aamir,” explained the petite Zoya. Once dad Javed Akhtar succeeded with Aamir, SRK was easy to approach. “I personally spoke to Shah Rukh. But I won’t like to take the credit alone, because both actors did it out of friendship for Farhan and Ritesh. There is a lot of respect between all of us,” she added. The film has Bollywood as its backdrop with Farhan playing a struggling actor opposite Koknona. “This is the first original story that gives you an insider’s journey of the film industry. A struggler’s experience,” said Ritesh. And here’s another little secret: Aamir shot for the film when he was in the midst of Ghajini and had the tonsured look; so, the consummate actor agreed to wear a wig for Zoya!
